That's going to be me in a few hours. Because That Nobel Dream: The "Objectivity Question" and the American Historical Profession by Peter Novick is going to lead me to that. And I'm on Chapter 2. I still have roughly 300 pages to go.
Yeah. Sláinte, Murph, sláinte.
*head to desk*
Seriously wondering why I didn't just say 'fuck it' and get my MFA instead.
Authors that just randomly use words like "popery" and "epistemological", as well as just using random words in quotes drive me insane. It doesn't make you sound smart. It makes you sound like a pretentious ass. ESPECIALLY when that type of word use is so inconsistent. Honestly, it's like a 13-year-old who just learned to curse. And I did my BA in English so, I thought "Hey. It won't be so bad..." since I just assume that English people (the field of study, not the people inhabiting the country) are the worst offenders. Nope! How wrong I was. So, know what Peter Novick? Screw you. I will mock and give sarcastic comments to my heart's content. Because, it's the only way to get through your almost 700 page sleeper about how you're going to be "objective" on the topic of "objectivity" when studying history. The only reason I haven't lit your book on fire as a sacrifice to the literary gods, is because it belongs to the library. And I have to come up with questions for it by Sunday for class.
